(Old) Planning & Research

Above are my own designs and works.

- I'm taking this early opportunity to experiment with blogging techniques, so please excuse any compositional inconsistencies.

Resistance Du Sanglier. A french graphic novel that I don't quite understand what's happening, but the artistic expression is truly beautiful and captivating. The style has a large emphasis on light having deep blacks to hard whites.

Li'l Gotham. I love the cartoony, expressive style and I'd love some of my work to go a little towards a similar look. The watercolour paint adds texture to the pictures. The details makes it more endearing.

Destiny Island. A place that is nowhere, shrouded in mystery. Speculated that it doesn't actually exist; it's not on the map, and they don't know how they got there, why they're there etc.
The idea I want to use is similar. A likewise island, full of mystery and wonder, no where specific, may not even have a name. It's just the place the characters live and always have.

Another look at Kingdom Hearts art style. Above, "Destiny Island", is the place characters from the Kingdom Hearts universe come from and return to often. The characters below, (but the illustrations specifically) are very expressive. The exasperated features like thin body structure but larger hands and head explains a cuteness to the character - even if they are perceived as "cool". What I mean is, young animals are considered cute, and the relation to this point is that young animals ie puppies have larger paws for their proportion, which is showed here in these characters. Their paws-equivalent (hands and feet) are larger to a realistic proportion. I feel like I may pursue a similar trait. I'll at least try/experiment with it. I may end up going in the complete opposite direction!
